From the Publisher
Colorado's creative economy has been through a rough couple of years and, hopefully, is starting to recover. To assist in this effort is the creation of the new Creative Industry Division in the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade. The feature this month details how the Colorado advertising and marketing creative community can work in a public/private cooperative effort to increase the creative opportunities in the state. A big thank you to ELAINE MARINER, Executive Director of Colorado Council on the Arts, for giving us the details on the Creative Industry Division. Enjoy the feature and determine how you and your organization can get involved.
I want to welcome the Printing Industry Association Mountain States (PIAMS) to Advertising & Marketing Review. The organization now will have their two-page newsletter in each edition. PIAMS represents printers throughout the state.
Need to make a correction from last month's news item about the BMA meeting and some prizes awarded. We stated the KATE GURULE, PG Exhibits, won the membership drive. Actually, Kate won the door prize that day and the winner of the drawing for new and renewing members was LAURA HIGGINS, Director of Marketing at Bello Credit Union. She won the weekend at the Broadmoor.
The Colorado BMA's very successful Annual Gold Key Awards were held on April 30. Nearly 200 attended to receive honors for the best B2B advertising in the state. See a complete recap and list of winners on pages 22 and 23. Also, the BMA, the New Denver Ad Club and Printing Industry of Colorado (PIACO) jointly sponsored a presentation by Jeff Hayzlett, Eastman Kodak Marketing Director on May 5. There is a full recap of the event on page 25.
As we head into the summer months there will be many opportunities for golfers. On July 12, BMA and PIACO will hold a join tournament at Arrowhead Golf Club with a 730 AM scramble start. The Rocky Mountain Direct Marketing Association and PIAMS hold a joint tournament August 16 at Green Gables Country Club. The Rocky Mountain Advertising Golf Association continues their tournaments with play at Lakewood Country Club June 14, Arrowhead Golf Club on July 12, Hiwan Country Club on August 2 and Air Force Academy on September 10.
This is the June/July issue of Advertising & Marketing Review, as we do not publish an issue in July. In August we will be recapping the PIAMS Pride Awards along with some of the golf tournaments. Have a great start to the summer and we'll see you in August.
